Concerned Citizens of Leadville and Lake County (CC4LC), is a coalition of residents, families, businesses, and non-profit organizations who share a common commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of Lake County residents. We came together four years ago when we heard that the CJK Milling Company and Union Milling Contractors were trying to reopen, expand, and operate a cyanide leaching facility near our homes.
During conversations about our health, economy, and the environment, we quickly realized that the opening of the Leadville Mill held serious threats, not only to our neighborhoods but to the entirety of Leadville, Lake County and beyond. We formed CC4LC to organize and advocate for responsible industrial development and smart environmental stewardship throughout Leadville and Lake County.
Together we aim to:
Promote responsible, sustainable economic development
Advance innovative, start-of-the-art environmental stewardship
Sustain and grow our world-class outdoor recreational industry
Advocate for strong governmental accountability measures for balancing environmental and development aspirations.
Our forward-thinking goals are derived from the County's 2015 Comprehensive Plan and the quality of life that it promotes. The Mill’s threats to our air, water, economy, transportation, and soil are ultimately threats to our county’s health, safety, culture, and quality of life now and for decades to come.
